A delegation of Turks comes to pay respect to the King of France, fetching gifts from their Sultan… and maybe looking for local support for political plots in Europe? Six cavalrymen in splendid Persian baroque costumes – some Gardes du Carrousel – escort them towards Le Roi, who’s busy receiving a promising inventor: this little man – Denis Papin – prepared a smoke-puffing devilish machine that can pull the Royal Chariot with steam, and eating coal! “What is going on, here?” says one of the Royal Carters attending the horses of Le Roi. Well, several nobles have left their chariot behind and rush to get the latest news: something is moving too fast for them, in this century! Anyway, there is more news: portraits of Le Roi Soleil are selling like hot cakes, throughout the noblesse. They are tri-dimensional, now, thermoformed with a new process using plastics sheets, and hand-painted by Italian artists sponsored by the Crown. Nearby, the Menuisierie Royale – the Royal Woodworking Shop – is working three shifts to supply all the sofas needed to furnish the enormous mansion. Flexible polyurethane cushions are moulded in three presses placed in a row, fed by a rail-mounted mixing head: skilled woodworkers and textile craftsmen assemble sofas whose style will last for centuries. And more nobles poke their noses, fingers and feet everywhere, …what a waste of time for everyone!
